I cannot recall the last time I allowed myself to be bored. I reach for my phone whenever I feel boredom approaching. I may do this repeatedly throughout the day. Every time I am free, my attention is always drawn to my phone, whether I am waiting in long lines, playing Candy Crush on the toilet, or waiting at a red light for it to turn green.

Does this pose a problem? Are we losing anything by avoiding boredom? It depends on whether we perceive boredom as a positive or negative feeling. You may say that being bored is a negative feeling. After all, who wants to be bored? I am able to catch up on emails or post updates on social media instead of just sitting in line. This seems to be a legitimate argument. If boredom was a negative feeling.

As with all of our feelings, boredom is not a negative experience. In the absence of boredom, one remains trapped in unfulfilling situations or life habits. Our feelings are simply trying to tell us something. Our feelings guide us along a particular path. Yes, it can be challenging to analyze every emotion, but sometimes you just have to sit with it.

When our brains have time to unwind, it thinks about ourselves. You do not need to worry about work, school, or the multitude of other issues we face every day. Boredom is both a warning that we are not doing what we want to be doing and an encouragement to change goals and projects. We try to avoid situations in which we might feel bored because it may cause us to question what we are doing with our lives. Nevertheless, if we do not take the time to ask these questions, we can become stuck in a rut in life. Do not avoid boredom, allow yourself to become bored

We are truly never alone when we have our smartphones with us. Our attention can be captured at any moment by a message, a call, or a notification. We should put our phones away more often. Allow yourself the opportunity to be bored, it’s healthy for you. Spend time with yourself. You are the only person you cannot get rid of, so you may as well get to know them better.
